At only 27-years-old Moshoodat Sanni has become a force to be reckoned with in the beauty industry. Her work as a makeup artist speaks for itself, with its unique look that can’t be missed. From her work with notable stars such as Amara La Negra, Yandy Smith and Yemi Alade, this Qween is set to highlight their beauty in what can only be described as regally detailed. Sanni’s journey as a make-up artist has been focused on self-reflection and appreciation, which she hopes shows in her work. She chats with Qweens about what she wishes for the future of her work and the current state of the beauty industry.

Why did you want to become a makeup artist?

I started my beauty journey around 18 or 19-years old because I just wanted to look and feel beautiful.

What would you say inspires you to keep working on your craft?

Self-evolution. I think in the first half of my 20s I started realizing a lot of things I was doing didn’t make me happy and I wanted to fix that.

What message do you hope the world is getting from your work?

Self-love, self-care, self-appreciation and self-value.

What would you say to encourage young makeup artists to continue working on their craft, despite sometimes being discouraged?

I would say: zest is a powerful thing, and you should do all things with zest and energy and love. Toughen up and stand for what you believe in.

Why do you feel it is important to have diversity and representation in the beauty industry?

Because beauty is one of the most important things on earth, whether people like to address it or not, beauty runs everything in the world. People gravitate to beautiful things beautiful people and beautiful places, so having diversity in beauty helps a big deal in how society views us!

How do you think the beauty industry is changing mainstream media’s idea of diversity?

It’s doing wonderful things and opening doors for many different people to feel like they are enough! It’s a beautiful thing to watch.

What do beauty and makeup mean to you?

Creativity, expression and love

How do you stay motivated to achieve your goals?

I remind myself how many people I am impacting when I'm doing the right thing.

What’s next for you?

Mastering the can of worms, I've opened! Never in a million years did I think my work would bring me this far and receive so much love.
