Four years ago Ronke Lawal decided it was time to do things her way, so she founded her UK-based public relations agency, Ariatu PR. Since then Lawal has helped many new, up-and-coming entrepreneurs find their footing in building and growing their brands using her PR expertise. Here is how it all started.
What inspired you to start your business?
At the core of my desire to start my own business was mantra “Live the life you love” I wanted to live a life that I loved, and while perhaps that was a little naïve at the time ultimately it has come to fruition. It is not always easy but when business truly flows and the opportunities that I have attracted come to me I have to remember that mantra. I am truly grateful.
What is the inspiration behind the name of your business?
ARIATU is part of my middle name. I am so proud of the names that my parents blessed me with, they speak of prayers that they have for my life, they were the very first gifts that they gave me, and they are by far the most valuable. They empower me.
What is something you tell yourself to stay motivated?
With all the setbacks that I have survived and lived through, I have been given another chance to live, to breathe and to rise again. It can be hard, it can be challenging, and when the harsh realities of life hit home, I have to remember to take care of myself and protect my energy. I am still learning and growing and moving forward understanding that when I feel demotivated it is a chance to recharge my batteries.
What else keeps you motivated?
I have to admit that I use my own YouTube videos to keep me motivated – both filming them and even watching them back serve as reminders as much as they serve those who watch them.
Who inspires you most?
There are so many humans who inspire me on a daily basis, people whom I am surrounded by and whom I follow online, people whom I call friends and even simply people who share their messages through their gifts and their purposes. To name just one person is too difficult. I am inspired by too many. God inspires me above all else, God’s grace and guidance have inspired me to keep going even when the world makes me want to give up – for me that is the real inspiration.
What message do you hope the world is getting from your work?
I hope they see that there is so much more to PR than fixed perceptions. I hope they look at the clients that I represent and understand that there are so many amazing entrepreneurs and brands out there that deserve a chance to shine.
I hope they see me and understand that they can also step forward and do what they love boldly and courageously.
